Our Majestic Lord
“O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!” (Psalm 8:9, ESV)
O Lord, our Lord
Heavenly Father, I’m thankful that you are my Lord. You are my king and the ruler over my life. Yet, I know I don’t always live that way. Like Paul, I’m often saying, “For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing.” (Romans 7:19, ESV). Even though I know you and love you as Lord, I don’t always live that way. I place myself in authority—in the position of Lord. I do things my way. It’s foolish, and it never works out for me.
Father, I’m sorry. I need your forgiveness. I need you to clean me of my self-sufficiency and self-aggrandizement. So, please forgive me. And, Father, please work in me to deny myself and follow You as Lord. Help me give more of myself to you every day—to submit more of my life to you.
Father, I also find comfort in knowing you are “our Lord”—my Lord. You are not some far-removed God who doesn’t know me. You are not some God who isn’t relationship with me. You are MY God. You are OUR God—the God of your people. I find comfort in this because it means you want to bring cleansing, forgiveness, and reconciliation. You want to restore relationship because we are your people and you are our God. I don’t have to manipulate you to grand forgiveness and restoration. You give it willingly and joyfully because you are My God. And I’m thankful.
How majestic is your name in all the earth!
Father, majestic is the perfect way to describe you. As we look at your creation, it wraps us up in its majesty. We walk through the woods in awe of the flowers, the leaves, and the trees. The mountains force us to stop and wonder. The Grand Canyon leaves us breathless at its magnitude. The rivers at their beauty.
Yet, Father, you created them all. No matter how much majesty we see throughout the earth—and there’s a lot of it—you are more majestic still. When the Grand Canyon brings us to our knees with its majesty, we recognize that your majesty is greater. Your majesty rings throughout the entire earth—through all of creation. Every flower, leave, tree, and mountain is declaring your majesty. We should listen and join in, Father, stir our hearts to belt out your praise, to lift your name above every other name, and to show the world your majesty.
Father, I’m also reminded that your majesty isn’t just shown through creation—it’s shown through your redemption. When I realize the forgiveness and cleansing you offer, I see the majesty of your name. When I experience the reconciliation you offer, your majesty fills my heart, soul, mind, and strength. Nothing on this earth can touch the majesty that comes from Redemption…except the majesty that will come when the fullness of Redemption comes. The majesty that comes when Christ returns. The majesty that comes when we experience the new heavens and the new earth. The majesty that wipes every tear from our eye. The majesty of joy in your presence. O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth, forever and ever, Amen!
